There are many types of cage on the market, some suitable, some not. You should be looking for a cage at least 75x40x40 (although most hamster owners say no less than 80x50cm) for a Syrian, and just under this for a dwarf. If you are considering getting more than one hamster (never keep Syrians together) then try get a cage which only has one floor; this will reduce the chances or territorial fighting between the hamsters. Plastic Modulars cages should never be used as a home for your hamster. They can be used as add ons to a bigger cage, but they are too small and have too little ventilation to offer a home to your pet. Although many of these cages appeal to a younger generation you have to remember a hamster is not a toy.
